The ICIC’s vision is to be the global forum which connects member Information Commissioners responsible for the protection and promotion of access to information laws in order to improve transparency and accountability to the benefit of everyone.​

The ICIC’s mission is to share knowledge and best practices, to build capacity, to help identify what is needed for global progress and to act as a collective voice in international fora with a view to improving people’s right to public information and their ability to hold to account bodies that provide public functions.​

Goals

The goals of the ICIC are to:

  1. Protect and promote access to public information;
  2. Promote and support dialogue and mutual cooperation;
  3. Encourage the development and sharing of information and best practices, including peer learning;
  4. Undertake and support research on issues integral to access to public information;
  5. Develop the capacity of the ICIC;
  6. Help to develop the capacity of its registered members and increase membership ;
  7. Facilitate reflection and learning from case work on systemic issues;
  8. Act as a collective voice in the international community to raise awareness of issues that impact upon access to public information; and
  9. Promote the development and adoption of international standards in access to public information in all regions across the world, including the establishment of independent oversight bodies.

The ICIC Johannesburg Charter

Introduction

The Johannesburg Charter (hereafter, the ‘Charter’) was adopted on March 13, 2019 by resolution of the information commissioners present at the closed meeting of the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) in Johannesburg, South Africa.


The Charter establishes the governance framework of the ICIC. It sets out the guiding principles, the vision and the mission, the values, the goals, the role of the Conference, its membership, its governance structure and the rules governing the participation of its members.

Introduction

La Charte de Johannesburg (ci-après appelée « la Charte ») a été adoptée le 13 mars 2019 par résolution des commissaires à l’information présents à la réunion à huis clos de la Conférence Internationale des Commissaires à l’Information (CICI), qui s’est tenue à Johannesburg, en Afrique du Sud.


La Charte établit le cadre de gouvernance de la CICI. Elle énonce les principes directeurs, la vision et la mission, les valeurs, les objectifs, le rôle de la Conférence, sa composition, sa structure de gouvernance et les règles régissant la participation de ses membres.

Introducción

El Estatuto de Johannesburgo (en adelante, el “Estatuto”) se adoptó el 13 de marzo de 2019 mediante resolución de los comisionados de información presentes en la sesión cerrada de la Conferencia Internacional de Comisionados de Información (ICIC) en Johannesburgo, Sudáfrica.


El Estatuto establece el marco de gobernanza de la ICIC. Establece los principios rectores, la visión y la misión, los valores, los objetivos, el papel de la Conferencia, su membresía, su estructura de gobierno y las normas que rigen la participación de sus miembros.

Meet the Executive Committee

The Secretariat wishes to announce the outcome of the first ICIC Executive Committee Elections which closed for voting at midnight UTC on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Thank you to all the candidates for their inclusion in the voting process. We’d additionally like to thank the 70% membership who voted in these proceedings.

Congratulations to Comisionada Presidente Blanca Lilia Ibarra Cadena and colleagues at the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection of Mexico. ICIC members unanimously voted in favour of them to become the first elected Chair of the Executive Committee. INAI will also host the ICIC Secretariat.
